Memorial Day and End of School

As usual, things have been very busy at the Bonner household. I've transitioned into working at home full-time, we had Memorial Day, and the end of 2nd Grade and The Sloan School.

Here are a couple of pictures of the 1st annual Memorial Day Mom vs. Storm Softball game. I believe the boys thought playing the moms would be a total piece of cake but we held our own and WON the game. Now, for a lot of us, other than helping the boys practice, we hadn't picked up a bat or a glove in a very long time (I can't even think how long for me). But we all did great, hit good balls, and scored some runs. We even managed to make a few outs. It was a lot of fun for everyone, especially the dads who got a great laugh at our expense. A big shout out for Angela who caught a major fly ball hit by one of those dads and got him OUT!!!!!

After Memorial Day Michael spent his last week at the Sloan School. It's been great but it's time to go and simplify our lives a bit. So the week was filled with fun activities at school. Wednesday was the promotion and awards ceremony. Michael was officially promoted to 3rd Grade. Michael was awarded a pin for making the A-B Honor Roll for the year (although straight A's for the six weeks). Michael also got the only Perfect Attendance award for the year (how'd that happen?). Finally, Michael received a character award from his teacher for being "Most Improved" for the year. Here are a couple of pics from that day.

On Friday they had the End-of-School Picnic including hot dogs and bounce houses. Here's a pic of Michael at the bounce house on his last day at the Sloan School.

Stay tuned for reports of our 1st Summer of Fun!!

Rainy Saturday May Update

Well, it's a rainy Saturday and the Bonner household is not moving much. We're also babysitting this weekend and while the little guy took a nap so did Edd and I. The only person who hasn't had a nap is Michael. So, he'll crash tonight while the rest of us are up pacing the floor I imagine.

Anyway, I'm trying to decide if I'm ready to embark on my continued painting adventure and decided I needed to delay my decision just a bit longer and update the blog. A lot has gone on in the last few weeks, as usual, and I've (also as usual) done a poor job keeping everyone up to date. So, here goes...

First, we've had a pair of ducks decide to adopt our pool as their place. They've been here on and off for a few weeks and are quite scared of the humans although they seem to be a bit immune to the dog - imagine that. Well, because they are prone to fly off at the first sign of people I've had a hard time getting a picture of them. So, here's my best shot...

Another exciting adventure was Field Day for the Sloan School. Michael's class is small this year, only 10 children, and so it didn't take us long to run through the 50 yard dash, frisbee throw, long jump, hula-hoop, three-legged race... Here are a couple of pictures of Michael at field day:

We've also been trying to wrap up baseball season. There have been a lot of things getting in the way like rain and the swine flu shut-down. Have to point out, though, that while we were shut down for the swine flu the weather was perfect... wouldn't ya figure. Don't get me started on all of that. Anyway, here is a picture of Michael warming up and one of the team. Another shout out to Wendy who did a wonderful job taking the team pictures again this year - she's AWESOME!!!

The Storm has had a banner season and performed well. They finally beat the Rangers which have been their arch-nemisis for a few seasons now. We've still got two games to play, maybe next week if the weather would cooperate, and then we'll see about some summer tournament action.

The next exciting adventure was Michael's class play. The name of the play was Camp Wise'n Up. It was mostly singing but Michael got to dress up as a "gathering" ant. He liked that because we decided, with Mrs. Page's help, to make him a farmer. Here are a couple of pictures from the play:

Immediately following the play we took some random pictures of the kids. Here is Michael with two of his buddies, Riler and Isaiah:

And yes, he is that much taller than his friends... I'm in trouble.

After the play the 2nd Grade hosted the Mother's Day Tea where all the mothers were served sweet tea and cake - what more could you ask for? I took careful note of the picture Michael drew for me which shows what he is grateful to me for, here's a picture of the drawing:

In case you can't decipher the writing... it says something to the effect of - My mom is special because she sets up sleepovers and has a drawing of Michael, Brandon, Riler and me... Hmmmmmm.

True to form, after the Mother's Day Tea and school was out, Riler came for a sleep-over and we all went to the Rider's game. I had a little trouble getting cooperation for a picture, but here's some proof we were there.

We hope everyone is having a great May and enjoys the end-of-school festivities as much as we do. Summer here we come!!
